Moisture Resistant Gypsum Board Ceiling for Cove & Designing Work

Product Overview

Moisture Resistant Gypsum Board Ceiling is a lightweight false ceiling system used for cove design, ceiling levels, beam covering, column covering, and decorative ceiling treatment. It is suitable for auditorium interiors, halls, studios, conference rooms, and moisture-sensitive ceiling areas where a smooth finish, better durability, and acoustic comfort are required.

The system consists of 12.5 mm thick moisture resistant gypsum plasterboard fixed on a GI metal framework. The board core is reinforced with mineral additives, glass fibres, and vermiculite to improve stability, reduce shrinkage, and provide better performance under heat and moisture conditions.

Purpose

The purpose of this ceiling system is to provide a clean, smooth, and durable ceiling surface while supporting architectural design and acoustic requirements.

It is mainly used to:

  • Create cove and decorative ceiling profiles
  • Conceal wiring, services, lighting recesses, and ceiling irregularities
  • Improve ceiling aesthetics and finishing
  • Support acoustic ceiling treatment
  • Help manage sound reflection and improve sound clarity
  • Provide a lightweight alternative to conventional plaster ceiling work

Installation Layer / Actual Process

1. Base Ceiling

The work starts from the existing RCC slab or structural ceiling surface. Ceiling levels, cove profiles, and lighting positions are marked as per approved architectural drawings.

2. Ceiling Support System

Ceiling support angles are fixed to the RCC slab using suitable fasteners to hold the suspended ceiling framework.

  • Ceiling support angle: 25 mm x 10 mm x 0.50 mm
  • Fastener: 6 mm or as approved

3. GI Perimeter & Framework

GI perimeter channels are fixed along the wall line. GI ceiling sections and intermediate channels are then installed to create the main support grid.

  • GI perimeter: 20 mm x 30 mm x 0.50 mm
  • GI ceiling section: 27 mm x 27 mm x 51 mm web x 0.50 mm
  • Intermediate channel: 15 mm x 15 mm x 45 mm web x 0.50 mm
  • Cross member spacing: 450 mm c/c or as per drawing

4. Additional Support

Extra reinforcement is provided for large ceiling areas, cove edges, lighting recesses, service openings, and heavy design sections as per site condition.

5. Gypsum Board Fixing

12.5 mm moisture resistant gypsum boards are fixed on the GI frame using 25 mm screws. Boards are aligned properly to achieve a level and clean ceiling surface.

6. Jointing & Finishing

Board joints and screw heads are finished with jointing compound and paper tape. After sanding, the surface is finished with two or more coats of approved plastic emulsion paint.
